Capital Campaign Ribbon Cutting Event 2010
Thursday, May 06, 2010

The Capital Campaign at St. Michael’s Long Term Care Centre has been split into 3 sections, phase 1a which includes the front lounge, the recreation department, the dining area and front entrance, phase 1b the first and second floor nursing stations, and phase 2 the resident living areas. On Thursday May 6, 2010 an official ribbon cutting ceremony was celebrated to open phase 1a of the project. As guests arrived and viewed the newly renovated areas, they were entertained by the quartet Les Sons De La Rive Gauche. The ceremony was held in the newly renovated front lounge and attended by such dignitaries as Mr. Peter Sandhu, MLA, city councilors Mr. Tony Caterina and Mr. Ed Gibbons, Mr. Doug Elniski, MLA, and Mr. Dave Quest, MLA. Mr. Peter Sandhu brought greetings from the Provincial Government, and Bishop David Motiuk gave a blessing for the continued construction. Cindy Guenther spoke about what St. Michael’s means to her family and how the new renovations will be able to help her mother by having her relax in a more home like atmosphere. Our very own second floor resident helped to cut the ribbon, leading the way to begin construction of phase 2!

Capital Campaign One Year Celebration 2009
Wednesday, June 03, 2009

On July 3, 2009, the weather was beautiful and the music was lively. The day was perfect for a BBQ and a celebration for the St. Michael's Long Term Care Centre Capital Campaign one year anniversary. In just one short year we have raised a total of nearly $3.5 million towards our $6 million goal.

Politicians, businessman, family and friends gathered together to hear about the fundraising that has already been accomplished. Outstanding announcements and commitments were also made. Gifts were presented from Friends of St. Michael's Society of Edmonton in the amount of $50,000. President and CEO of Synergy Building Solutions announced a $100,000 contribution towards the campaign. The Alberta Health Services also presented a gift of $1 million to our Capital Campaign. Along with the gift from Synergy, they have agreed to work with St. Michael's in the rebuilding of the Long Term Care Centre.

Renovations are set to be started this September 2009. Other dignitaries present included Mr. Peter Sandhu, MLA for Edmonton Manning, Mr. Tony Caterina, City Councilor for ward 3, both of whom brought greetings from the government. Also in attendance, Mr. Ed Gibbons ward 3 city councilor, Mr. Doug Elniski MLA, Mr. Nolan Crouse Mayor of St.Albert, and Mr. Randy Palivoda Deputy Mayor of Spruce Grove.
